Bitterzoet erfgoed

February 18th – September 12th, 2022

To what extent was Groningen involved in slavery? What traces of the history of slavery do you see? Which of its effects are still visible in our society?

These questions will be the main topics of the cultural manifestation ‘Bitterzoet Erfgoed’ (Bittersweet Heritage). In 2022 a large number of museums, heritage institutions and cultural and educational organisations from both the city and the province of Groningen will be focusing on the history of Groningen’s involvement in slavery, as well as on its effects on present day life.
